Your Guide to Annual Food Events in Jamaica

Jamaica’s motto is “Out of Many One People” and that’s literally a testament to the melting pot that is Jamaica. Naturally with such a diverse culture comes diverse food and culinary practices. I don’t mean to brag, but Jamaican food is the best in the world.

To all my foodies, whether you’re a local or a visitor let me help you to mark your calendars or add slots to your itineraries and tantalize your taste buds because I've compiled a list of annual food events here in Jamaica.

Our island is not only blessed with breathtaking landscapes but also a rich culinary scene that deserves to be celebrated. Without further ado, let's dive into the flavorful festivities that make Jamaica a foodie's paradise!

March is right around the corner (at the time I wrote this) and first on our list is:

  • Jamaica Blue Mountain Coffee Festival. Indulge in the rich flavors of our world-renowned coffee while enjoying live entertainment and exploring the coffee culture that makes Jamaica a coffee lover's paradise.

In June there is:

  • Jamaican Rum Festival, unsure why it wasn’t held in 2023 but previously it was held June 25,2022. It’s usually a great time, filled with seminars on Jamaican rum and its heritage topped off with live entertainment. I’ve been eyeing their social media page to ensure the next staging doesn’t miss me!

July mark your calendars for:

  • Kingston Kitchen, which is one of my favorites, I’ve been there three times, and each time is better than the next. Kingston Kitchen is an evening filled with food and vibes with a ton of local Jamaican food businesses showcasing their products you can’t be hungry.

  • Also in July is Boston Jerk Festival, this event adds its own twist to the jerk experience, bringing together local chefs, artists, and musicians in a celebration of community and flavor. It's a true feast for the senses!

August hosts:

  • Denbigh Agricultural Show which is the largest and oldest agricultural event in Jamaica. Every year, thousands of visitors flock to the Denbigh Show Ground in May Pen, Clarendon, to enjoy three days of fun, learning, and networking. You will discover the latest products, services, and technologies in the agricultural sector, as well as the finest quality of local produce, livestock, and food. The Denbigh Agricultural Trade show is more than just a show, it is a celebration of Jamaica's rich agricultural heritage and a showcase of its bright future.

  • Mobay Jerk Festival: Picture this – the aroma of sizzling jerk chicken, the rhythm of reggae music in the air, and the vibrant energy of food lovers coming together. It's a celebration of our world-famous jerk cuisine that you simply can't miss.

  • Seafood lovers, this one's for you! The Ocho Rios Seafood Festival is a seafood extravaganza featuring the freshest catches from our coastal waters. Indulge in delectable dishes while enjoying the sea breeze and breathtaking views.

The last of my search gave me events in November which include:

  • JA Food and Drink Festival:  Elevating the culinary experience to new heights, the Jamaica Food and Drink Festival is a week-long extravaganza. From gourmet dinners to street food showcases, this event caters to every palate. Immerse yourself in the diversity of Jamaican flavors and discover the talents of our local chefs.

  • Kingston Curry Festival: This event showcases the art of curry-making, bringing together local chefs and home cooks to demonstrate their skills. From goat curry to vegetarian delights, it's a curry lover's dream come true.

  • Food Rum and Reggae Festival: I believe last year was the first staging and it looked like a time was had! A festival of Three things Jamaica is known for combined can never be a bad idea, held in the “Breadbasket “parish of the island St Elizabeth over three days so it must be a foodies dream getaway.

  • Restaurant Week Restaurant Week, held annually in November, is a culinary celebration where participating restaurants offer discounted prix fixe menus. It's an ideal opportunity for food enthusiasts to explore new dining experiences, as establishments craft special menus, allowing patrons to sample a diverse array of their culinary delights at more affordable prices.

  • Finally Ital Food Festival Ital Food Fest is a unique culinary event highlighting the richness of all-natural Jamaican Ital cuisine, inspired by the Rastafarian community's dietary principles. This festival provides a platform for food enthusiasts to savor the vibrant flavors and cultural significance of plant-based, organic dishes rooted in Rastafarian traditions. Explore the essence of Jamaican Ital cuisine and embrace a wholesome culinary journey during this vibrant festival.

These annual food events are not just about the food – they're a celebration of our culture, community, and the diverse flavors that make Jamaica a true culinary gem. Make sure to mark your calendars and savor every moment of these unforgettable experiences!
